The Beauty and Functionality of Composite Decking in Poland, Ohio

<< Back to MVP Home Improvements Blog Home

The Challenges of Traditional Decking Solutions

For homeowners in Poland, Ohio, creating a comfortable outdoor living space can pose several challenges. Traditional wooden decks, while offering a natural aesthetic, require substantial maintenance. Over time, wood is susceptible to weather damage, rot, and insect infestations, leading to regular staining, sealing, or replacement needs. These tasks can be costly and time-consuming, taking away from the enjoyment of the outdoor space.

Another challenge associated with conventional decks is safety. Traditional wooden decks often splinter and become slippery when wet, posing a risk for slips and falls. This can be especially concerning for families with children or for those who frequently entertain guests outdoors.

Overcoming Challenges with a Composite Deck

Addressing these concerns, a 14'x16' composite deck was designed and installed in a residence in Poland, Ohio. Composite decking, made from a blend of wood fibers and plastic materials, provides the look and feel of wood without the extensive maintenance. This deck, finished in a sophisticated gray color, offers the classic appearance of a wooden deck but without the associated upkeep.

Composite decking also overcomes the safety challenges of traditional wooden decks. It is resistant to splintering and offers a slip-resistant surface, even when wet, providing a safer environment for families and guests. The durability and long lifespan of composite decking make it a cost-effective solution in the long run, overcoming the financial challenge of regular maintenance or replacement associated with wooden decks.

Enhancing Aesthetics and Functionality with Vinyl Handrails and Privacy Lattice

To complement the gray composite deck, white vinyl handrails were installed. Not only do these handrails provide safety and support for users, they also add a touch of elegance to the deck. Vinyl, unlike wood, does not warp, crack, or rot, and it resists UV damage, making it a low-maintenance option that retains its beauty for years.

A white privacy lattice was also incorporated into the deck design. Privacy lattices are decorative structures that offer some seclusion without completely blocking out the surroundings or the breeze. This element enhances the aesthetic appeal of the deck while providing a degree of privacy for the homeowners.

Finally, to ensure ease of access, two sets of steps were included in the design. This practical feature enables easy movement to and from the deck, adding to the functionality of the outdoor living space.
